Director General, Deputy Head of Operations, European Investment Bank

Luca Lazzaroli became director general, and deputy head of operations at the European Investment Bank (EIB) in June 2015. Just over a year prior to stepping into this role, he was deputy secretary-general of the bank’s General Secretariat.
Mr Lazzaroli first joined the EIB in 1992 in its risk department and subsequently held various roles in operations and finance. Between 2001 and 2006 he became deputy division head of the Benelux division, and later headed up the department in charge of lending to infrastructure projects and public-private partnerships in Spain.
His early professional career began at Chase Manhattan Bank, in Milan and London, where he ended up in the corporate finance team.

A chartered accountant, Mr Lazzaroli holds a degree in economics and finance from Sapienza University of Rome, where he also pursued his post-graduate studies after studying at the Georgetown University in Washington DC.
