Founder and CEO, Cevital Group
Algerian businessman and entrepreneur Issab Rebrab is the founder and CEO of Cevital Group, Algeria’s largest private conglomerate. Under his leadership, the group has continuously expanded and diversified its business activities, and today has 26 subsidiaries in industry, food processing, mass distribution and even the automobile sector.
Thirty years before launching Cevital, Mr Rebrab ran his own accountancy practice, before becoming involved in entrepreneurial ventures in the metal and steel industries, in 1971 and 1991 respectively.
In recent years, Mr Rebrab has focused Cevital’s operations beyond Algeria into France, Italy and Spain in Europe, as well as Tunisia, Morocco and Brazil. In 2013, he acquired Oxxo, a French small-to-medium sized manufacturer of high-performance windows. He also went on to re-launch France’s domestic-appliance giant Brandt Group in 2014, and acquired specialist steelmakers Luccini in 2015.
Since 2008, Mr Rebrab has been chairman of Cevital Group’s board of directors. Although all his five children are involved in management of the group, in 2009 independent members were also admitted to the board. This decision was motivated by a desire to broaden Cevital’s governance, support its growth and guarantee sustainability.
Mr Rebrab was voted CEO of the year at the Africa CEO Forum 2015 and personality of the year in 2016 by the Tuscany region in Italy, following the resumption of operations at the Piombino steel-making plant.
