Günther Nooke is the German chancellor’s personal representative for Africa. From 1998 to 2005 Mr Nooke was a member of the German Bundestag where he first held the title of deputy chairman (2000–2002). From 2002 until 2005, he then became spokesperson for cultural and media affairs of the parliamentary group for the centre-right political party CDU/CSU. In 2006, he was appointed federal commissioner for human rights policy and humanitarian aid in the government of Chancellor Angela Merkel. Since April 2010, Mr Nooke has served as personal representative of the German chancellor for Africa.
