Awarded the 2017 World Food Prize for creating and executing new agricultural investment programmes, Dr Adesina has held several high-profile leadership positions, including as Nigerian minister of agriculture and rural development, vice-president of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), and associate director of the Rockefeller Foundation, where he began his career as a post-doctoral fellow in 1988. A global development pioneer who believes that ‘Africa can feed itself and the rest of the world’, Dr. Adesina obtained undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral degrees in agricultural economics from the University of Ife, Nigeria, and Purdue University, USA.
