European Bank for Reconstruction and Development

Sustainable Investment in Africa
Pavillon Niger
11:45 to 12:45

The focus of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has mainly been on impact investment in small and large private sector companies. Its debt, mezzanine financing, equity and risk-sharing tool box is expanding and, consequently, the private sector is playing an increasing role in transport, social and municipal infrastructure investments and the development of local capital markets. This session will present how the EBRD can support businesses and how it finances climate change mitigation and adaption. It will also offer a glimpse into what new approaches the EBRD is exploring to reap the benefits of the EU External Investment Plan.
Key questions to be addressed include:

  • How can the EBRD support development focused on private sector engagement
  • What can the EBRD offer to support private sector competitiveness?
  •  How can the private sector be harnessed to help deliver on climate change mitigation and adaption?
  • How can private sector-EBRD partnership opportunities be leveraged under the EU External Investment Plan?
